Why to Lose When You Can Win

Updated: Jul 23, 2023

“Be a person who might appear inflexible, boorish, or exceptionally obtuse, and direct. You are merely being convincing”

Those who lack conviction prefer to take the path of least resistance. Such people may get along well because they lack the confidence and courage to question. They are not explorers but meek followers. They prefer to be led rather than lead. They obey to get acceptance; even though they know for sure that what they are doing may not be right. They miss the forest for the trees.

It is up to you to decide what is important to you. If something is worth doing, it is worth doing well. You must remember that the quality of your actions is the result of your mindset. Every effect has a cause. When you suffer from ethical dilemmas such as; is an employee only an employee during working hours? Or should ethical standards be followed outside of working hours as well, you won’t produce quality results. Your output no longer convinces people. When the performance of a task is substandard, there may or may not be consequences. When there’s self-accountability, you morally hold yourself responsible for successfully completing the task or explaining why you failed to do so. Therefore, you and you alone are responsible for your poor performance.

Be a leader in your own domain. Leaders set the tone for the rest to follow. Stand up and be counted. Without accountability, you are rudderless and lost in the ocean of life. It’s crucial to implement accountability, alignment, and commitment and be free to perform passionately. Let your passion shine through even in everyday tasks. Justified reconciliation for success may be essential, but the task itself loses its value when you compromise. It’s so very natural that you tend to lose your own value too as an effect.

“What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.” — Nelson Mandela
