A Happy Workplace: 8 Reasons for It Not Being So

Updated: Jul 22, 2023

Happiness and well-being at work have been an increasingly popular topic in recent times in both academic and business contexts, along with positive psychology, through which organizations aim to find out, what makes working environments engaging and motivating. An office is a happily productive one when:

  1. Employees are energized by and enthusiastic about their work

  2. Employees find meaning and purpose in their work

  3. Employees have good relationships at their workplace

  4. Employees feel committed to their work

The 8 possible reasons for your employees not enjoying “Happiness and well-being” so very essential for desired productivity:

Reason 1: You don’t give credit when it’s due worst you take it

You take credit for your employees’ ideas or hog their limelight. This action not only promotes resentment but also makes you seem unreliable.

Reason 2: You call the employees to come in on holidays or while they’re away on leave

They resent you when you invade their personal time for mundane work. Make this an exception and not a rule. Unless you have something that absolutely has to be done, let them enjoy their free time.

Reason 3: You play favorites

When you play favorites your judgment can bias and impair your leadership abilities. You then treat your employees unequally.

Reason 4: You fix unreasonable deadlines

You are so unreasonable by spending all of your time at the office and forcing your employees to do the same. Somebody is waiting for you at home.

Reason 5: You don’t delegate

While it’s fine to keep track of how the assigned tasks are progressing, you resort to micro-managing things.

Reason 6: You discuss employee matters with their peers

Such kind of loose talk always reverts to the person and will make you look totally unprofessional.

Reason 7: You promise what you can’t deliver

You fail to keep promises you make to employees, especially about pay and perks.

Reason 8: You lack the motivation to motivate

Your lot is demotivated. You fail to provide them with encouragement to get a project going.

Employees choose a job or career path based on their liking for that job, ability to earn a living, and future prospects. Whatever the reason, feeling fulfilled and happy in your daily activities in the workplace has a positive impact on your performance at work. The workplace you manage should allow the employees to meet their own inspirations for increased productivity.
